Roman Limes
Roman Limes -
craft set with watchtower, walls, people and vehiclesAfter the defeat of Varus around 9 AD, Emperor Augustus abandoned the plan to completely integrate Germania into the Roman Empire. The Roman troops withdrew as far as the Rhine and Danube. In the area between the two rivers, the Romans erected the Limes in the course of the 1st and 2nd centuries AD, which formed the new border to the Germanic world. However, the Limes was not an impermeable border fortification. A lively exchange of goods developed between Roman traders and the population in free Germania.
