Kit for a swimming gyro with water pulse drive
Would you have known? The mother of all steam engines was a ball that could rotate by means of steam-driven recoil and was invented as early as the 1st century AD by Hero of Alexandria (see Wikipedia: "Aeolipile"). This floating spinning top also turns according to the same principle.
Its water impulse drive, as found for example in the Knatterboot, the well-known toy, works as follows: A tea light brings the water in the copper tube spiral to a boil, the steam expels it at the ends and creates a recoil, condenses again and draws new water into the tube. This process repeats itself several times a second for as long as the heat lasts!
